Copenhagen the gateway to Scandinavia

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and the largest city in Scandinavia. Geographically, Copenhagen is strategically placed between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea area, and where the continental Europe and the Scandinavian Peninsula meet. One third of Denmark’s 5.43 million inhabitants, i.e. 1.83 million people, live in Greater Copenhagen, and approximately half a million people live in the city.

The Greater Copenhagen area has the highest population concentration in Scandinavia, and Copenhagen is the centre of the most dynamic region in Northern Europe; the Øresund region, comprising the Greater Copenhagen area and Skåne in Southern Sweden. The total population of the Øresund region amounts to around 3.5 million people.

The business environment of Copenhagen meets all basic fundamentals and offers a number of advantages for companies:

  • The most connected, strategic location in Northern Europe
Copenhagen offers world-class physical and technological infrastructure, and its position serves effectively as the base for Scandinavian and Baltic operations.
  • A unique skill and talent base
The most mobile and qualified labour pool is available in the Danish-Swedish Øresund region.
  • A flexible labour market that is unique in Scandinavia and Europe
It allows businesses to adjust operations according to market developments with minimal cost implications.
  • A competitive cost and tax level
Copenhagen is ideally suited for cost effective business solutions for the Scandinavian and Baltic region.
  • Knowledge driven clusters within a range of key business sectors
The clusters, particularly within biotech, pharmaceuticals and information technologies, offer businesses access to high quality staff and active channels for business dialogue and transactions.
  • A dynamic metropolis
As the largest city region in Scandinavia with a diverse, open-minded social and cultural life, Copenhagen offers expatriates a quality of life rated among the highest in the world.
