EU packaging rules apply, with PFAS limits on food-contact packaging
11 Aug · European Commission

In practice: Where you send physical product to the EU, get written confirmation from your packaging suppliers that food-contact packaging meets the PPWR PFAS limits: 25 ppb for any individual PFAS and 250 ppb for the sum by targeted analysis, excluding polymeric PFAS, and 50 ppm for total PFAS including polymeric. The limits catch non-intentionally added and polymeric PFAS, so a supplier saying it adds no PFAS is not the same as compliance, and there is no sell-through transition: packaging first placed on the EU market from 12 August 2026 must comply regardless of when it was made, even though labelling, recycled content and recyclability duties only phase in from 2028 and 2030.

Iraq trade guide

Middle East Version 1.0 Updated 28 Aug 2026

Market synopsis

0.1%of total UK exports
£800mUK exports to Iraq
#75UK export market

Entering Iraq — UK Exporter Edition. A practical preview for UK exporters considering Iraq — a market genuinely split into two separate customs jurisdictions, where direct UK imports of Iraqi goods are effectively zero despite Iraq's status as a major global oil producer — one of 101 markets in the Copernicus Trade Guide Library.

Iraq's genuine structural complexity — a federal/Kurdistan Region customs split and a multi-step Certificate of Origin legalisation chain — is easy to underestimate if you're used to more standardised markets. Every material claim in the full guide has been checked against primary sources, then re-verified through a second, independent human-verification pass (Layer-2) — which is exactly how the wrong legalisation chain, the trade-agreement overstatement and the unconfirmed Kurdistan tax figure were caught and corrected. A unified Iraq-KRG customs system is also being worked toward from April 2026, worth watching as it develops.

The headline correction in this edition

1
The correct UK route is Chamber of Commerce → FCDO legalisation → Iraqi Embassy London — not the US chain some sources describe
2
Don't assume the January 2025 agreement is a free trade deal
3
This figure is reported, not independently confirmed
