EU packaging rules apply, with PFAS limits on food-contact packaging
11 Aug · European Commission

In practice: Where you send physical product to the EU, get written confirmation from your packaging suppliers that food-contact packaging meets the PPWR PFAS limits: 25 ppb for any individual PFAS and 250 ppb for the sum by targeted analysis, excluding polymeric PFAS, and 50 ppm for total PFAS including polymeric. The limits catch non-intentionally added and polymeric PFAS, so a supplier saying it adds no PFAS is not the same as compliance, and there is no sell-through transition: packaging first placed on the EU market from 12 August 2026 must comply regardless of when it was made, even though labelling, recycled content and recyclability duties only phase in from 2028 and 2030.

United States trade guide

Americas Version 2.0 Updated 28 Aug 2026

Market synopsis

21.8%of total UK exports
£202.7bnUK exports to the US
#1UK export market

Entering United States — UK Exporter Edition. A practical preview for UK exporters considering the United States — the UK's single largest export market, currently navigating the most volatile US tariff environment in decades, and one of 101 markets in the Copernicus Trade Guide Library.

The US is the UK's single largest export market, but it is also the highest-change market in the entire library — US tariff policy has changed materially at least three times since May 2025. Treat any tariff figure, including the corrected ones above, as a starting point to verify against CBP, USTR and the HTS database at the time of shipment, not a fixed fact to rely on indefinitely. The full guide converts each requirement into a checkable workflow, and every material claim has been checked against primary sources, then re-verified through a second, independent human-verification pass (Layer-2).

Five things exporters should know about

1
Section 301 forced-labour tariff is now the operating baseline
2
UK-origin patented pharmaceuticals: verified at 0%, not 10%
3
Section 321 duty-free treatment is suspended for all countries, including the UK
